The iPhone is coming

The has been a lot of rumours around the UK release date for the much sought iPhone, but on September 18 Apple finally put a halt to the gossip by announcing that the iPhone will be available in UK stores on November 9, 2007. If you want to buy iPhone in the UK, you need to get to an Apple Retail store, The Carphone Warehouse, or an O2 store. You can also order your iPhone online. During his speech on September 18, Steve Jobs announced that the iPhone price in the UK will be £269.00. Telefonica O2 will be the exclusive carrier and you must sign up for an 18-month long plan with them when you purchase your iPhone. Telefonica O2 offers three different UK iPhone plans ranging from £35 to £55 per month. The O2 plan included in the £900 starter package is the £35 plan which comes with 200 minutes and 200 SMS per month. If you plan on using your iPhone more, you can bump yourself up to 600 minutes and 500 SMS by paying a monthly fee of £45 instead of £35. For the really active users, there is the £55 per month plan which comes with 1200 minutes and 500 SMS. As you can see, the number of SMS is the same for the £45 and £55 iPhone plan.

The UK iPhone price of £269.00 sounds kind of hefty compared to the US$399 paid by U.S. buyers. It should however be noted that the US$399 price does not include tax, while 17.5% VAT is included in the British £269.00 price.
